ABOUT THE TOURS:

Renaissance tour
The renaissance tour is our classic tour of the castle. A guide dressed in historic garments representing one of the royalities from the Vasa-family takes you along for a historic tour in the castle. The royalty guides you through the royal suites, the festive hall and the church, talks about how people lived in the castle and tells stories from their own lives.

The fortress of Vadstena: In this tour the focus lies upon the castle as a fortress. Supreme commander Peder Ribbing guides you through parts of the fortress and talks about the defence and the story of the besetment by the Danish in the year of 1567.

The green thread (children’s tour)
In this tour the children follows a prince or a pirncess and a guard through the castle, searching for the missing portrait of Erik XIV. On the search for the missing painting the children gets to learn about the life in the castle but also about the environment, recycling, farming and food. Suitable for children aged 5-9.

For the excitement and the adventure we prefer that the children joins the tour without their parents. The children are in good hands with the prince or princess and the guard.

The women around the Vasa throne
Katarina Stenbock, third wife of Gustav Vasa, was coronated as the queen of Sweden in Vadstena 1552. Katarina experienced the reign of fourther four king of Vasa dynasty after the death of her husband. She gives the vistiors her perspective on the turbulent Vasa-era when she explains the womens role during the intrigues, power struggels and family fighting in the house of Vasa.

Night tour of the castle: This is one of our dramatized tours of the castle, performed in the late evening, in a castle only lit by electronic candles. The visitors may meet a king or a queen, the princess Cecilia or maybe a strange guard who tells the story of the castle and their own lives in a more vivid and dramatized way.

Ghostly tour with Duke Magnus
The ghostly tour takes place in the darker parts of the castl, your attendant for the evening is Duke Magnus, no one knows the castle better than him. Lord of Vadstena Castle. The son of the famous king Gustav Vasa of Sweden. Brother to John III and Eric XIV. On the ghostly tour through the gun turrets, the dark passages a lot can happen. Magnus focus on the dark part of the history of the city and the castle and talks about illness, death and melancholy.

Power & Love
The year is 1580. Katarina Jagellonica and king John III recently arrived at the castle. They bring the visitors through the halls of the castle and focus on tales of power and love. On this tour you get to taste, feel and experience the history in a vivid way!

Flavors of the history
Join us on a tour to the 16th century Vadstena Castle! What could be found on the royal menu of a Vasa Castle 500 years ago? Who worked in the great kitchen? What was significant of the sweish 16th century food?
This is a guided tour that ends with a tasting of 16th century renaissance food brought to us by the chefs at the nearby Starby Hotel.

Most of our guided tours are available in english for pre-booked groups, consisting of at least 10 persons, any time of the year. A few of the tours are available in other languages as well. Book at least one week in advance.
